The 14th year of the Lake Mirror Classic Automobile Festival is now history. Some 600 show vehicles were part of one of the biggest regional events of its kind in America.
As with many such events, awards were given for various categories of classic vehicles.
Mirror Lake in Lakeland, Florida lives up to its name.
Lakeland, Florida is located about midway between Tampa and Orlando, straddling I-4. Air travel is an easy in and out – with fine airports and so many other attractions – in both Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater and Orlando-Kissimmee, FL.
Lakeland lives up to its name, as an aerial or satellite view shows the landscape to have a generous helping of lakes and ponds. This area is also a drawing card for many retirees, plus is home to dozens of popular age restricted (55+) and all age (“family”) land lease manufactured home communities, making it an affordable quality living dream come true.
Even before we moved to Lakeland, we were told by Mike Bowen with American Modern Insurance, about this fabulous event. He suggested we make time, and our family was so glad he shared the tip.
The Lake Mirror Classic Automobile Festival event website describes the setting as “…the restored 1920’s, art deco-inspired Lake Mirror Promenade in downtown Lakeland, Florida provides one of the most scenic venues in the country. The event is known for its beautiful lakefront setting and friendly atmosphere. In addition to attracting over 35,000 spectators…”
Rare, collectors bicycles were also on display.
The Lake Mirror Classic draws top car collectors from the Southeastern U.S. and serves as a support event to the prestigious Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance.
The event chairman wrote as follows:
“The 2013 Lake Mirror Classic is now in the books… WOW! What a great weekend!
I want to thank everyone who had a role in making this year’s event the largest and best ever. It is so gratifying to see how our cadre of wonderful volunteers work together with such efficiently. The participants comments are overwhelming enthusiastic for the incredible job by our volunteers. From their perspective, they tell me that the attitude and professionalism of our volunteers is what makes this the best run event they attend.
The pride I feel for our community is overwhelming because of the spirit of volunteerism with which we are blessed.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
- Ford Heacock”
The Lake Mirror Classic Auto Festival had as its honorary Chairman the former Vice-President of Design for General Motors, Mr. Wayne Cherry. He is shown here with a concept car that he personally designed.

This is an event that we would gladly attend again and again. Should your U.S. travels take you near Lakeland Florida in the fall, why not check your calendar and time it to allow your attendance at this fine event. There is truly something for everyone – from concept cars, to classics – and even those antique bicycles! Make sure you bring your camera. ##
