Fourth of July, Jefferson Memorial and the Washington DC Solar Powered Modular-PreFab Home Decathlon

We work hard during the day (and night, and weekends…). When we can, we combine work, play and inspiration. We did all of that in our recent family trip to Washington, D.C.. The Lincoln Memorial, check. The Washington Monument, check. Arlington National Cemetary, check. Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum and more, check.

All of the above have their inspirational and patriotic elements. This was our first time to see the Jefferson Memorial up close. Thomas Jefferson is the man who drafted the Declaration of Independence. Some of Jefferson’s sayings are etched in stone, glass or are otherwise printed at the monument. Jefferson was a believer, and along with other American Founding Fathers, was committed to protecting people of faith in their “God-given” rights.  It is thus fitting to think about Jefferson and the Founders on the Fourth of July.  They sacrificed, fought and many died to give America its independence.

The Modular Pre-Fab Home Solar Decathlon

In our periodic U.S. Destinations articles, we don’t require any connection in the article to modern factory built homes. The tourist and fun-spot articles are to give you and yours ideas on potential places to visit and things to do.

That said, Washington D.C. was the site of the Solar Decathlon just a few years ago. Teams from around the world came to the U.S. to show off their pre-fabricated and modular home solar-powered designs.  So we thought to share this video from that event, which took place near those famous sites in D.C..

This video will give you the snapshot of that event, and you’ll see the Washington Monument in the background.

When the time for your next getaway comes, why not consider a trip to the nation’s capital, the District of Columbia (D.C.)? It is filled with history and inspiration! Much of it is free or low cost.
