Manufactured and modular home trade shows are designed for housing industry professionals. The Louisville and Tunica manufactured housing shows aren’t open to the general population. To better serve the public, we like going to those shows, catch some of the top management and interview them in one or more of their model homes. We can thus bring you an “Inside MH” look, sharing both a visual tour of the home, plus provide insights from the pros who know these homes the best.
That’s what we did at the recent 2015 Tunica Manufactured Housing Show. We caught up with Chet Murhpree, Vice President and General Manager of Deer Valley Homebuilders. James McGee, one of Deer Valley’s (DVLY) area managers was with him. Both were gracious to spend time with us. That means a lot, since the turnout out at Tunica set a number of recent records. We heard from attendees and exhibitors, it was a good, busy show!
So it was no small thing when Chet and James took valuable time away from their customers to tour a home and talk with us. They clearly want the public to learn more about contemporary manufactured and modular home (MH) building.
As the recent February 2015 new home production numbers reflect, the MH industry continues to grow. When you look at the model home in this video and listen to the stories told by Chet and James, you’ll quickly begin to understand ‘why’ MH sales are growing.
Let me put some facts shared in this video in context, because we always want to be accurate, and so do those we interview.
In the Southeastern U.S., where Deer Valley presently focuses much of their operations, you can get conventional ‘site built’ housing that starts around $100+/- per square foot, depending on the local market. That would be for ‘entry level stick building,’ not for upscale new homes.
So when Chet Murphree says you can save 40%-50% off those costs with one of their network’s builder/retailers, that’s significant! But what really makes it exciting is that they’re selling what Chet calls “sex appeal.” They have great looking, quality homes that are energy and money savers.
Another point is that the pricing they discuss will vary based on location, as they clearly say. Factors like your chosen features, your location and other factors can vary. So if you are in a market not served by Deer Valley, don’t be surprised if the pricing is different when you have a factory-crafted home built for you.
As a final FYI, Deer Valley is a publicly traded company (DVLY). The fact that new investment dollars are finding their way into MH is a good sign for the future of their company and the industry at large. That’s good for current and future MH owners alike.
More videos are in the pipeline. We hope you’ll enjoy and learn more about the modern world of factory built homes from this video. ##
