Queen of My Double Wide Trailer
Lyrics
Well I met her out at Murphy’s restaurant
She said she was fresh from the farm
I remember thinkin’ for a country girl
She went pretty well armed
We sat there talkin’ by the lobster tank
I ordered her a sloe gin fizz
And when them chicken fried steaks arrived
She said “I like livin’ like this”.
So I made her
The queen of my double wide trailer
With the polyester curtains and the redwood deck
Sometimes she runs off and I’ve gotta trail her
Dang her black heart and her pretty red neck
A few nights later I run into her
With some stranger on a park bench
She said ‘he rebuilds engines and his name is Earl
He’s the Charlie Daniels of the torque-wrench
I whispered ‘Honey let’s just go on home
Have some onion rings and watch TV”
As I walked her to the truck
Earl was crying “Don’t you leave me”
I told him, this here’s
The queen of my double wide trailer
With the polyester curtains and the redwood deck
Now she’s run off and I’ve gotta trail her
Dang her black heart and her pretty red neck
Now bless her little soul, she’s not to blame
That’s just the way her mind is
If there’s a way to stir trouble up
The girl was born to find
She’s the queen
She’s the queen
The queen of my double wide trailer
With the polyester curtains and the redwood deck
Sometimes she runs off and I’ve gotta trail her
Dang her black heart and her pretty red neck

“A rose by any other name would still smell as sweet,” the famous English playwriter William Shakespeare insightful said.
That point by Shakespeare noted, people routinely want to be called by their name. People routinely do not want to be mocked. People want to be respected, and they want their home respected too. There are a range of reasons to use the proper name for some person or thing. Technical reasons and just good old fashion politeness are among them. For those who own a post-HUD Code manufactured home, a good reason to use the proper terminology is higher resale value.
Some have mocked modern manufactured homes by using nomenclature that fit 50 to 70 years ago. 70 years ago, America did produce ‘trailer houses.’ 50 years ago, the U.S.A. did produce “mobile homes.” But all of that changed on June 15, 1976. That’s the day that modern manufactured homes were officially born.
There have been actors, actresses – TV and movie stars – singers, millionaires and billionaires who have embraced the mobile or manufactured home living lifestyle. Some have custom or customized homes, but others bought ones much like those that ‘everyday Americans own.
